With the inclusion of content designers and strategists on more and more UX and product teams, we’re seeing the opportunity for content designers to specialize in areas like conversation design, taxonomy, design systems, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. The content conversation is shifting from “What is a content strategist?” to “What kind of content strategist are you?”

I am a bit of a unicorn. I am a content strategist but, like Rebecca Nguyen says, with the shifting conversation, we need to ask, "What kind of content strategist are you?". So much has grown from that: digital marketing, strategic communications, UX/UI.  
See, I am a research nerd and storyteller. I use analytics and audience evaluation to write a story that is the user’s journey. I share that information – page metrics, search term frequency, personas – with stakeholders to come up with the right tools and messaging to tell the story. With the ideal outcomes for the project identified, it’s time to tell the story.
I am self-aware enough to tell you that I am a jack of all trades, master of one – and that one is writing. While I do have the ability to do layout and prototyping (see my UX completion below!), I trust graphic designers to build wireframes in ways that amplify my research and writing. And I have to rely on developers to put design into production! I can't write that (code)!
Then it comes back to me. Using the identified project targets and compliance requirements (WCAG, SEO), I QA the project to make sure it meets all the content strategies then send it to the powers that be.

Challenge: New to the team, I was able to conduct an unbiased evaluation of the UX journey. I analyzed the journey from the perspective of a Medicare recipient and a new persona I identified, a caregiver of a Medicare recipient.

Challenge: Belnick’s 7 brands of home and office furniture completely redesigned their Salesforce websites. To optimize SEO and improve the user experience for finding the correct products, I led a deep-dive project to reorganize the URL structure.

Masters Thesis


Being a serial academic, I never stop learning. After being self-taught, I earned my Masters degree in Digital Content Strategy. I learned to use the various tools to work with teams to design engaging content. I am very proud of my thesis which investigates the influence of influencers on a brand.

Having moved myself up in the digital content sphere, my latest role was UX Designer with a specialty in UX Writing. I worked in Figma and Adobe XD, collaborating with my fellow designers on improving the user experience. Being me, a life-long learner, I wasn't content to know "enough" about prototyping and layout, I had to learn it for myself.

When my contract ended in April 2023, I spent the summer learning about UX Design from start to finish. Here's the proof.
